Charleston Pilots Find Expanded Channels Safer, More Maneuverable

Captain John Cameron, executive director of the Charleston Branch Pilots Association, highlights the recent channel improvements in Charleston Harbor, making navigation safer and more accessible for vessels of various sizes and tides, through a five-year project that deepened the channels from 45 to 52 feet.
In addition, a separate project deployed a data buoy and a wave-measuring buoy near the entrance channel, providing real-time wave and oceanographic information, resulting in increased safety for pilots boarding and leaving vessels.
