UW and Navy team up for hurricane research using Sofar buoys. Jake Davis deploys wave systems in Hurricane Ian's path.

The University of Washington is working with the Navy's Scientific Development squadron to better understand hurricanes.

Jake Davis, a student at UW's Applied Physics Laboratory went to Florida this week to deploy wave-monitoring systems in the path of Hurricane Ian.

The wave buoys used for the monitoring were developed by Sofar Ocean Technologies and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
