What Vessel Onboarding Does

Vessel Onboarding is a self-serve, guided flow within Wayfinder. Key vessel details are automatically pre-filled from trusted external reference data, reducing the amount of manual input required. Operators review the pre-filled information, complete any remaining fields, and submit. Once onboarding is finalized, the vessel is active in Wayfinder and ready for voyage planning.

Flexible Workflow Options

Teams can choose how to complete the vessel particulars questionnaire depending on how they operate:

• Captain-led: The captain is invited into Wayfinder during the onboarding process to review pre-filled data and complete vessel-specific fields from onboard. Shoreside teams can review and contribute at any time.
• Shoreside-led: The shoreside team completes the questionnaire independently. The captain can be invited later, once onboarding is ready to be finalized.

For vessels with limited internet access, onboarding supports an offline workflow. Teams can download the questionnaire, complete it onboard, and upload it once access is available.

Fleet Progress Tracking

The Vessel Onboarding dashboard gives shoreside teams a centralized view of onboarding status across their fleet. Progress is visible in one place, without relying on email updates to track where each vessel stands.

Vessel Performance Model

Once onboarding is complete, each vessel is configured with a Sofar Ocean vessel performance model. Built from class-average data and continuously refined using real-time performance data, this model underpins the routing recommendations Wayfinder generates for that vessel.
